If you’re exploring the world of online surveys, MyPoints may have come up. MyPoints offers users a way to get paid to answer survey questions, shop, and complete short tasks, but you may be wondering, “Is MyPoints legit? And can you really get paid to take surveys?”

In this MyPoints review, we’ll discuss how MyPoints works, how you can maximize your earnings, and some pros and cons to help you determine if it’s the best choice for you.

What is MyPoints?

MyPoints is an online rewards program that allows members to earn points by shopping online, taking surveys, scanning receipts, playing games, and more in their spare time. These points can then be redeemed for gift cards, cash, sweepstakes entries, or travel miles.

MyPoints has been around for over two decades, a notable achievement for any online platform in this space. MyPoints is owned by Prodege, LLC, which also operates Swagbucks and InboxDollars, two other popular rewards programs.

How Does MyPoints Work?

To get started, you need to create a MyPoints account with your basic information and password. You can also download the mobile app for Apple or Android devices. Once you’re in, there are several ways to earn extra money!

1. Taking Surveys

MyPoints partners with market research companies to offer surveys on a wide range of topics. These typically take between 5 and 20 minutes to complete and can earn you between 50 and 400 points on average, with some surveys paying up to 2,200 points per survey. Sometimes, MyPoints also offers a range of short product feedback polls to longer market research projects.

2. Shopping Online

If you shop through MyPoints’ partner retailers, you can earn a percentage of your purchase back in points. This typically ranges from 1% to 10%, depending on the retailer. However, you are initially paid in points, so you’ll receive up to 20 points per $1 spent.

Like other popular cashback sites, such as Rakuten, you can also download the MyPoints Score extension for Chrome, which automatically alerts you to reward points and applies coupon codes.

3. Playing Games

If you’re a fan of online games, MyPoints offers the opportunity to earn points by playing games on their platform. Games include board games, casino games, puzzles, role-playing, and more. With gaming, you’ll earn points for downloading the app and reaching certain levels in a set period of time.

Right now, if you download Monopoly Go and reach level 301 within 60 days, you can earn 84,736 points!

4. Submitting Magic Receipts

When you shop at popular retailers like Target, Walmart, and CVS and purchase a specific product from their Magic Receipt list, you can scan your receipt to earn additional points.

At the time of writing this MyPoints review, all stores had an offer where you could earn 43 points by buying bananas (from any brand) and scanning your receipt – not bad!

5. Take Advantage of Travel Deals

On your dashboard, there is a tab labeled Travel. Much like shopping online, you’ll browse the available travel partners and click on the red button to earn a set amount of points for each dollar that you spend.

For instance, currently, if you book lodging using Vrbo through MyPoints, you earn 7 points for each dollar spent, which can add up quickly.

6. Answer the Daily Poll Question

The Daily Poll is a multiple-choice question that you can log in and answer each day for 1 point.

7. Search and Earn

Search and Earn is a search engine within the MyPoints platform and app. Instead of using your regular search engine, log in and use MyPoints to earn points for surfing the web! When you add your keywords, a partner affiliated with MyPoints may offer you a certain number of points to check out their website.

8. Refer a Friend Program

Another way to earn extra income using MyPoints is by referring your friends to the platform. Just log in and head to the Refer and Earn tab. When your referral creates an account and earns 300 points in their first 30 days, you earn 480 points. If they spend $20 or more on a single transaction using the shopping feature, you’ll earn 750 bonus points. Lastly, you’ll earn 10% of their earnings for life!

9. Daily Goal

For each 5-day period that you log in and complete a task, you’ll earn 25 bonus points. You can easily achieve this just by logging in daily and answering the Daily Poll.

10. Complete Your To-Do List

In your dashboard, you will find a daily to-do list with a variety of tasks to complete. If you make it halfway through the list, you’ll earn an additional 5 points, and if you make it all the way through the list, you’ll earn a total of 10 extra points.

11. Earn Point Perks

Occasionally, MyPoints posts Point Perk alerts on their Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter (X) accounts. When you see these special codes on social media, copy the code and paste it into your dashboard under Perk Points to earn the additional points.

How Much Can You Earn?

Your earning potential on MyPoints depends on several factors, including the number of surveys available to you, their length, and the number you can complete each day. Individual surveys pay an average of 125 to 1,000 points or more, depending on their length and complexity.

One point is equivalent to $0.006. MyPoints offers a $2 signup bonus, equivalent to 300 points, when you first join the platform.

With MyPoints, for most rewards, you’ll need 2,400 points to redeem a $15 gift card. You can also use your points for sweepstakes entries, which cost anywhere from 5 points to 25 points to enter. Sweepstake rewards are point values of 25, 50, 500, 2,500, and 50,000.

Like many other survey sites, using MyPoints won’t make you rich, but it is a low-effort way to earn a little extra cash and free gift cards during your downtime.

Rewards Redemption Options

MyPoints allows you to redeem points for gift cards or online certificates from online stores, restaurants, airlines, and hotels. You’ll find gift card options for popular merchants like Walmart, Best Buy, Home Depot, Amazon, Starbucks, and more. If you prefer to use your rewards for online shopping, there are several retailer partners to choose from, allowing you to redeem your points like coupons.

Redeeming points for payouts is easy; simply log in to your account and click ‘Redeem Points’ in the upper right-hand corner. This takes you to the rewards page so you can view your redemption options. Click on the reward option and the amount you wish to redeem. Then, re-log in to your account to verify and click the ‘Get Rewarded’ button.

If you’re looking to redeem your rewards similarly to cashback, the best option is to redeem for a PayPal gift card. That way, you can send the money to your PayPal account to redeem it as cash.

Making the Most of MyPoints

The key to making MyPoints surveys worthwhile is consistency. Log in daily to check for new money-making opportunities. Keep your profile updated, as surveys are often targeted based on demographics and consumer habits. Additionally, consistency helps build a profile that may lead to a higher volume of survey offers.

Completing surveys with careful consideration and thought will yield a better overall experience. Rushed or inconsistent answers can result in being disqualified from participating in a paid survey opportunity during the pre-screening stage.

When presented with a survey opportunity that you think you’d be a good fit for, here are some steps to follow:

  1. Read the instructions carefully before starting a survey.
  2. Always answer honestly and thoughtfully.
  3. Pay attention to details, as some surveys may include attention-check questions.
  4. Take your time, and don’t rush through the survey.
  5. Be consistent in your answers – changing responses too frequently may lead to disqualification.

Alternatives to MyPoints

If MyPoints isn’t quite what you’re looking for, there are several other survey sites to consider. To maximize your earnings, consider trying some of these options in addition to using MyPoints.
